10 July 2008 - SA KWAITO STAR APPOINTED AS SA OLYMPIC AMBASSADOR
Johannesburg, The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) appointed South African Kwaito star, Kabelo Mabelane, commonly known as Bouga Luv, as its brand ambassador.
This was announced at Olympic House in conjunction with the final Beijing Team Announcement. The brand ambassador programme that will see elite sport in South Africa being promoted through an awareness campaign of healthy lifestyle living and Olympism. The three times Comrades marathon runner rose to fame with his hit “It’s my House” in 2002 for which he won a South African Music Award (SAMA) and Metro Award in the same year.
Moss Mashishi, SASCOC President, said that SASCOC was established to promote and develop high performance sport in South Africa and it is within this spirit that SASCOC wishes to ensure that its target market sector is aware of its existence as well as the high performance sporting opportunities that may be realised through its programmes.
“Kabelo is a great role model for our youth. He has undergone extreme changes in his own life, and is currently embarking on a campaign to inculcate a culture of healthy lifestyle living in the youth of our country. It was under these circumstances that SASCOC has appointed him as the brand ambassador.” Concluded Mashishi.
Kabelo said at the conference today: “I am very honoured to be appointed in this capacity. The role is an enormous one, and one that I accept with humility and commitment. I will use my best endeavours, abilities, knowledge and experience to promote and extend the image of the SASCOC to its target market sector, to serve SASCOC’s best interests, and to preserve SASCOC’s reputation and goodwill.
“I therefore take this opportunity to wish Team South Africa the best of luck in Beijing. I am honoured to be a part of the Team, albeit I am not competing. Representing ones country has to be the ultimate achievement in any athlete’s career, and I am truly humbled to see how they honour their commitments to South Africa, and I appeal to all South Africans, young and old, to put their weight behind the team, and lend them all their support”.
